Greetings fellow bloggers,my name is Esther Lee and I am currently a student from Unitar International University majoring in Education in Kuching Sarawak.I am a 20-year-old Chinese girl who loves watching Korean dramas, trying new food, travelling and playing the violin. This blog was created for my Pedagogy in Education assignment and this is where I am going to blog about all my Pedagogy in Education lessons, assignment progress and reflections.I believe this will be a good summary for any future students of this subject.
I have many philosophies in my life. One of them is that everyone should use their gifts and talents to serve God and contribute to society.I serve in a Catholic youth ministry in Saint Joseph's Cathedral and we were taught from the very beginning to always constantly improve ourselves as human beings to serve others and to make this world a better place.I hope to instill this moral value in my students.I want to teach them that knowledge is not used to boast about themselves or a tool for them to use to make them feel as if they are better than everyone else.Knowledge and good skills are used to help others in need especially the less fortunate.I feel that so many people forget this moral value. My second philosophy is that I believe that there is potential in everyone when they are given the right tools to achieve their dreams and in the future I hope to play my role as an educator to help students build their self-esteem and shape them to become better people who are able to contribute to society. For most of my life,I have had really low self-esteem but this is not till I met a few teachers and spiritual advisors who have made a tremendous impact in my life by encouraging me and supporting me all the way and they have changed how I saw myself. They have been a source of inspiration for me and I hope to show just as much support and love to my future students.I now believe that I am capable in achieving many things and I hope that my future students will believe that they are capable of anything as well.As the late Nelson Mandela once said,"It always seems impossible until it is done".
I shall now state my goals.Just to let you all know,I have many goals.I have once met a friend who told me that they never met anyone with so many dreams before.I guess this is because I have a lot of hope for the future which is something I believe everyone should have. There are so many possibilities in this world!I have a long bucket list but I am only going to state a few. Here's a shorter version of my bucket list.
1.Get a PHD
2.Be a professor/lecturer
3.Travel the world
4.Live in London
5.Be a concert violinist
6.Meet Pope Francis
7.Get married and have children.
8.Be a good cook
All my life I have always dream of going abroad to study.I feel that studying in Unitar University is a stepping stone for me to achieve my dreams.I am beyond blessed to receive a good education which is going to be able to lead me to my dreams.I still do strongly hope that I will be able to complete my postgraduate studies in England.
My goal is to one day be an English professor in Sarawak.I want to bring back everything that I have learnt abroad and teach my fellow Sarawakians.Obviously I did not choose to study to become an educator to become rich but I do know that being an educator would give me an income and with enough savings I will be able to do what I love doing the most which is travelling. My loving father has brought me to a few countries and I have learnt so much by being in a foreign land.
Other than reading and writing,I love music as well and I hope to one day be a concert violinist. What I love about taking up music lessons is that it does not only teach you how to be a better musician but also a better person.Music has taught me so much.It has taught me to discipline my practice hours,to not give up when things get hard or when you are tired and it is also a way for me to express myself when words are too hard to say.Besides my love for music,I want to be a concert violinist because I want to show my students that nothing is impossible.I want to be an inspiration for them and I want them to think,''If my teacher is able to do it then so can I".The same reason is applied to why I want to get a PHD and study abroad.
Anything is possible and never give up I tell you. Here is a video about a Korean man who has inspired me so much.
That is all from me for now.
